Element 2: Rationale for Technology Education

This element provides the opportunity to critique and argue for the place of technology education. Element 2 has three aspects.

Aspect 1: Drivers behind technology education
Describes the drivers that argue for technology education. This aspect introduces student teachers to intrinsic and extrinsic drivers. Intrinsic drivers recognise the inherent human desire to intervene in the world. Extrinsic drivers are provided by the socio-cultural environment (for example curriculum).

Aspect 2: Technological knowledge
Recognise that technology has its own domain knowledge. This aspect supports student teachers' awareness that technological knowledge allows active participation in, contribution to, and critique of the technological world.

Aspect 3: Promote opportunity for doing/making (Homo faber)
The value of doing and making in technology. This aspect supports student teachers to value and foster creativity, innovation and skill development through practical activity.
